I don’t usually say stuff like this but

Mark Richardson’s 33 1/3 book about Zaireeka by the Flaming Lips is really well done. Not only is it cleverly constructed, but it makes its case with just the right amount of personal/professional details and it makes one excited about the very idea of experimentalism. Only problem with the book: didn’t talk about the actual songs enough for my taste. But hey.

This from me, who has been turned down three times for the series (pitched Songs in the Key of Life, Dream Police, and Mama’s Gun), who has never written for Pitchfork (applied like 10 years ago, never even got an email in return), and who has never actually experienced Zaireeka in any form.

Still waiting for a quiet moment to read Carl Wilson’s entry. Appreciated the one about Illmatic, really liked Geeta’s Eno book, and still waiting to read a bunch of them. I’ll make a list sometime of the ones I’ve read, in order. Wouldn’t be shocked if thediscography was on that list, very near the top.
